Website design
According to Wikipedia, web design is a broad term covering many different skills and disciplines that are used in the production and maintenance of websites. Wikipedia mentions “different skills”. There are many skills that are needed to create a website that looks good and works properly.
Best website design
To judge a good website, you have to view a website as an entire entity. For example, if the design rocks but the navigation is not organized and the content is under par, it will not give visitors an overall good experience. The goal of a good website is to be appealing to the eye plus give the user a great experience.
User experience design
What is user experience design? It is designing a website with the entire user experience in mind. The design should look nice, navigation should be thought out and organized, multimedia should be included (video, images, text) and the user should easily find what they want. Give the user a good experience and ways to interact with your website.
Remember the last time you visited a website that was confusing, hard to navigate and you could not find what you went to the website for in the first place? Frustrated, you quickly left that website never to return. If that same website was organized, easy to navigate and you easily found what you wanted plus was entertaining, you probably would have bookmarked the site to return again.
This is why it is important to have a professional design your website. They keep up with current website standards and know what it takes to produce a website that looks great and gives the user a good experience.
There are many template companies out there that are low cost and promise a quick website that you can create yourself and claim will be up and running in no time. The problem with a template is that “you get what you pay for”. With a template, there are limits to what you can do, there is a huge learning curve and optimization is usually difficult for the average person. If you dislike their customer service or want to leave the company, you lose everything and all of the long hours you spent trying to learn how to use the template was wasted (as each company has a different template).
If you try another template company, there is a whole new template learning curve and you are basically only renting their template. With a professionally designed website, you own your website. After it is created, you can ask your website designer for a copy of your website to keep forever.
Remember, your website represents you and/or your business to the world. The more professional your website, the more credibility your company will have online. Many people waste money and time by trying to do it themselves and cut corners. You wouldn’t try to fix your plumbing, you would hire a professional. You should do the same for your website because a professional knows what it takes for you to be successful online and isn’t success the point of being online in the first place?
